Scelzi and KCP Racing Poised for Port Royal Speedway Return
PETERSEN MEDIA- Taking part in Pennsylvania’s crowned jewel event over the weekend, the National Open, Gio Scelzi and KCP Racing are already focused on this weekend’s trip to Port Royal Speedway following a tough run on Saturday night.
“It wasn’t our weekend,” Gio Scelzi said. “Friday night we had a pretty good run, and we were really hoping to back it up with a good run on Saturday night, but we just missed it.”
Checking in at Williams Grove Speedway on Friday night to kick off the Champion Oil National Open, Scelzi would time the Logan Contractors Supply, Inc./Aspen Aire/Royal Flooring backed No. 18 machine in sixth fast in his qualifying flight.
With heat races so important against such a loaded field of cars, Scelzi would take care of business from the second row as his third-place finish moved him directly into the opening night feature event.
Lining up in the sixth row, Scelzi would battle with the likes of Sheldon Haudenschild, and PA standout Brian Montieth as they all jockeyed for position just outside of the Top-10.
When the Friday night feature event concluded, Scelzi would bring home a 14th place finish in the feature, with one more night to go at ‘The Grove’.
Saturday night saw Scelzi get off to a tough start in time trials, which would essentially dictate the rest of the KCP Racing’s night. After timing in 16th fastest in time trials, Scelzi would finish eighth in his heat race before ending the night with a 13th place finish in the ‘B’.
“The National Open is undoubtedly the toughest race of the year in PA, and we just missed it a little on Saturday and in an event like that if you miss it early it becomes extremely tough to dig out of the hole,” Scelzi noted.
As the 2020 season winds down for KCP Racing, the team now turns its attention to more World of Outlaws action this weekend as the series makes the trip to Port Royal Speedway.
“We were just at Port Royal a couple of weeks ago with the All Stars, and I think we started to learn some things on the slick there that we are excited to try this weekend,” Scelzi added. “I said it after we ran the Tusky, but the slick there is like no other, and I think we will be up for the challenge.”
KCP Racing would like to thank Logan Contractors Supply Inc., Aspen Aire, Royal Flooring, Bobcat, Ted’s Body Shop, Team Excavating, Cox Design and Fabrication, Armor Electric Company, TammyHeckart.com, Quality Traffic Control, BergenKDV, and BK Racing Titanium for their support this season.
