Ian Madsen Pockets Pair of Top-10’s Over Memorial Day Weekend

PETERSEN MEDIA- Getting three races in over the holiday weekend, Ian Madsen and the KCP Racing team escaped with a pair of Top-10 finishes and were just one lap away from a third until shredding a tire on the last lap of Saturday’s feature.

“We were consistently in the Top-10 all weekend which isn’t bad by any means, we just need to be event better and get into the Top-5 and be in the hunt,” Ian Madsen said. “Guys are doing a great job, and it’s a pleasure to drive this car.”

A three-race weekend opened up in Charlotte, NC for the now extended two-day program at Charlotte Dirt Track now billed as the Patriot Nationals. Friday night Madsen opened the night up by timing the Logan Contractors Supply, Inc./Aspen Aire/Royal Flooring No. 18 entry in 11th fastest in time trials.

Running fourth in his heat, Madsen advanced into the opening night feature event where he took the green flag from the 11th starting position. On a slick Charlotte Dirt Track surface, Madsen would work his way into the Top-10 where he would battle much of the night.

When the 30-lap affair drew to a close, Madsen would find himself eighth in the night’s final rundown.

Back at it on Saturday night, Madsen kicked the night up by timing the potent KCP Racing entry in eighth quickest in time trials, before a tough heat saw him relegated to a seventh place finish.

Forced into the semi, a second place finish would propel the 2018 Rookie of the year into the feature event where he lined up back in the 20th starting position. On a very slick track that took rubber nearly as soon as the race came to life, tire wear would be an issue and Madsen would do a great job of keeping his tires under him as he found himself inside the Top-10 during the final few laps.

On the white flag lap, Madsen would fall to tire issues, as a flat tire pushed him back to a 14th place finish to end his start in North Carolina.

Traveling to Lawrenceburg Speedway on Monday night for the Memorial Day Spectacular, Madsen would time in 13th quickest in time trials he advanced from his fifth starting spot in his heat race to finish fourth.

Moving directly into the feature event, the St. Marys, NSW product would take the green from the 10th starting position, as he would spend much of the race battling inside the Top-10.

Racing with the likes of Daryn Pittman and Rico Abreu late in the race, Madsen capped a busy three-race stretch with a 10th place finish giving him his second Top-10 of the weekend.

“Good to close the weekend on a high, as we get ready to head to a new track this weekend,” Madsen said. “We have a new partner on board with us this weekend in Nashville, TN and hopefully we can put on a great show for a lot of first time fans.”

Ian and his KCP Racing team would like to thank Logan Contractors Supply Inc., Aspen Aire, Royal Flooring, Bobcat, Kline Electric, Ted’s Body Shop, Team Excavating, Greenland Homes, American Express, TammyHeckart.com, Quality Traffic Control, BergenKDV, P1 Race Wear, and BK Racing Titanium for their support this season.
