Ian Madsen Third at Mini Gold Cup in Chico, CA
PETERSEN MEDIA- Fresh off of a clean sweep performance in Tulare, CA, Ian Madsen and KCP Racing stayed hot with ‘The Greatest Show on Dirt’ as Madsen flirted with the lead on Friday night before taking the checkered flag with a third place finish.
“Kyle Ripper and the guys really gave me a great car on Friday night, and it was great to battle for the lead, and run up front for a second consecutive night,” Ian Madsen said.
Friday night in Chico, CA, Madsen and company would get off to a nice start as the Australian native timed the Logan Contractors Supply, Inc./Aspen Aire/Royal Flooring backed entry in seventh quickest in time trials.
A very strong heat race would see Madsen work his way into the third position, and take advantage of a late restart to slide into second and make himself eligible for the DirtVision Fast Pass Dash.
From his sixth starting position in the Dash, Madsen would continue to work his way forward as he would better his feature event starting position by one complete row as he surged to a fourth place finish.
When the Mini Gold Cup feature rolled around, Madsen would continue his strong showing at Silver Dollar Speedway as he settled into third and gave chase to Brad Sweet and Tim Shaffer.
Moving into second on an early restart, Madsen would continue to hound Sweet as he would soon feel pressure from Carson Macedo. A lap 14 restart saw Madsen flirt with the race lead, but as the lead trio danced with a tricky surface, Madsen would continue to run in third and eventually cap his night with a second consecutive podium finish.
Traveling to Stockton, CA on Saturday night, Madsen would get timed in ninth fastest and find himself in the second row of his heat race. When the action came to life, and errant right rear from another competitor would result in Madsen spinning off the surface.
Salvaging his heat with a seventh place result, Madsen would line up on the front row of the Last Chance Showdown where his second place finish moved him into the feature event.
From his 22nd starting position, Madsen would get moving in the opening stages of the race as he would get up to 14th. On a tricky surface that caused problems for some, Madsen would admittedly start pushing too hard and it would result in him getting over the edge of the track in turns one and two and bringing his machine to a rest.
Able to restart, Madsen would hang on to score a 16th place finish.
“Saturday wasn’t the best night for us, but we survived and made it out in one piece after a couple of tense moments,” Madsen added. “Hopefully the weather plays nice this week and we can get to Watsonville, CA and Placerville, CA.”
Ian and his KCP Racing team would like to thank Logan Contractors Supply Inc., Aspen Aire, Royal Flooring, Bobcat, Kline Electric, Ted’s Body Shop, Team Excavating, Greenland Homes, American Express, TammyHeckart.com, Quality Traffic Control, BergenKDV, P1 Race Wear, and BK Racing Titanium for their support this season.
