Ian Madsen To Conclude Rookie Season on World of Outlaws Tour at World Finals Following 11th Place Run at Tuscarora 50

PETERSEN MEDIA- Setting out for his first full go at the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series schedule back in February, Ian Madsen and his KCP Racing team are set to drop the curtain on their rookie campaign as all dirt roads lead to this weekend’s World Finals event in Charlotte, NC.

“It has been a grueling season with a lot of ups and downs,” Ian Madsen said. “It was kind of expected with us seeing some of these places for the first time. As a team we learned a ton, and as a driver I learned a lot about a good travel plan and times to stay away, as well as good times to jump in and lend a hand.”

Fighting Mother Nature during the penultimate event of the year at Port Royal Speedway over the weekend, the weather played nice and allowed Madsen and Company to get dirt at Port Royal Speedway on Sunday for the 51st Annual Tuscarora 50.

“We had really good speed all day Sunday, we just did not have the greatest luck,” Madsen noted.

Timing the Logan Contractors Supply, Inc./Aspen Aire/Royal Flooring backed NO. 18 entry in fourth fastest in qualifying flight ‘B’, the St. Marys, NSW native would line up third in his heat race.

With the Tuscarora 50 format used for this event, Madsen’s fourth place finish would not be enough to transfer him directly into the 50-lap feature event and it would force him into the ‘B’ where he would capitalize from his front row starting position and pick up the win.

Moving into the ‘A’, Madsen would find himself deep in the field as he took the green flag from the 21st starting position.

When the race came to life, Madsen showcased a very strong KCP Racing entry as he worked his way forward almost at will on the ½ mile speed plant. Working into the Top-15, issues on the 17th lap saw Madsen slow with a flat tire, which would force him to the work area.

Able to make repairs, Madsen would rejoin the field as restarted back in the 19th position. Still with a strong mount underneath him and a ton of laps left in the race, Madsen would continue claw his way forward.

Getting by a mix of World of Outalws standout as well as some stout PA Posse regulars, Madsen would just narrowly miss out on a Top-10 as he crossed the finish line with an 11th place finish.

“My guys gave me a great car all day long, we just kind of were in a bad position in our heat with the format, and then had some bad luck that set us back in the feature,” Madsen added. “A good result, and now we look forward to the World Finals where we had a couple of strong runs back in 2017.”

Ian and his KCP Racing team would like to thank Logan Contractors Supply Inc., Aspen Aire, Royal Flooring, Bobcat, Kline Electric, Ted’s Body Shop, Team Excavating, Greenland Homes, Finer Cuts Lawn and Landscape, American Express, TammyHeckart.com, Quality Traffic Control, BergenKDV, Coverage Direct, Revolution Race Gear, Monarch’s, and BK Racing Titanium for their support this season.

2018 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-76, Wins-0, Top-5’s- 9, Top 10’s-33
