Ian Madsen Picks Up Three Top 10’s On West Coast

PETERSEN MEDIA- A busy week of racing for the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series saw Ian Madsen pocket a trio of Top-10 finishes as the series made stops in Washington, Oregon, and California.

“It was a long week, but I was proud of the results we picked up on some tracks I have never seen before,” Madsen said. “Ripper and the guys worked really hard, and it was great to pick up some Top-10’s.’

Finishing 12th after starting 22nd during his first ever appearance at Skagit Speedway, Madsen learned from the success in the Friday night feature and was able to time in well, make the Dash, and finish fifth during Saturday night’s feature to get the team off and running as they began to head south.

Monday night’s visit to Gray’s Harbor Raceway in Elma, WA saw Madsen time the Logan Contractors Supply/Aspen Aire/Royal Flooring machine in 10th quickest before lining up 10th in the feature event.

During a race that clicked off laps quickly, Madsen would race his way forward as he collected another Top-10 at a new track as he took the checkered flag in the seventh position.

Wednesday night the scene shifted to Oregon as Willamette Speedway became the next new venue for the St Marys, NSW native. Having some ups and down in the feature event, Madsen would finish in 15th as the team then migrated to California where Madsen would get to a track he has visited before, Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, CA for the 65th Annual Gold Cup Race of Champions.

Friday night Madsen had his best run of the weekend as he timed fifth fastest in his qualifying flight before finishing fourth in his heat race. Lining up 14th in the feature event, the race would click off nearly with no stoppages and Madsen would flex his muscle as he worked his way forward.

Getting into the Top-10, Madsen would end up as the highest finishing non Californian drivers, and second highest finishing World of Outlaws regular as he would click off a ninth place finish.

Getting off to a better start on Saturday, Madsen would time the Bobcat/Kline Electric/Ted’s Body Shop mount in second fastest in time trial group before winning his heat race and marching into the all important Dash.

Finishing eighth in the Dash, Madsen would line up in the fourth row to start the 40-lap feature event. Running inside the Top-10 in the opening laps, Madsen would slip back to 12th where he would settle into.

Continuing to run strong, and fight for a berth inside the Top-10, close quarters racing on the 31st lap left him spun around getting into turn one and with front end damage bringing his night to an end.

“It is a different beast on the West Coast, but I was proud of my guys and the speed we had,” Madsen said. “This week we have a couple more tracks we have been to before on the schedule so we will look to end this trip on a high note.”

Ian and his KCP Racing team would like to thank Logan Contractors Supply Inc., Aspen Aire, Royal Flooring, Bobcat, Kline Electric, Ted’s Body Shop, Team Excavating, Greenland Homes, Finer Cuts Lawn and Landscape, American Express, TammyHeckart.com, Quality Traffic Control, BergenKDV, Coverage Direct, Revolution Race Gear, Monarch’s, and BK Racing Titanium for their support this season.
