PETERSEN MEDIA- Building off of an impressive King’s Royal that saw him go form 23rd to 10th in the feature, Ian Madsen would be in the hunt during last Tuesday’s Don Martin Memorial Silver Cup in Sarver, PA before closing the night out with a fifth place finish.
“We have been fast in these features lately, now it is just time to get to the next level and pull of some wins,” Ian Madsen said. “We had a good start to the week at Lernerville Speedway and then we kind of struggled in Central PA at Lincoln and Williams Grove.”
Tuesday night Madsen kicked things off by timing the Logan Contractors Supply, Inc./Aspen Aire/Royal Flooring backed machine in fifth quickest in qualifying time trials, putting him on the front row of his heat race.
Running second to Kyle Larson, Madsen would advance into the Dash where a second place finish put him on the front row of the 40-lap $25,000-to-win feature event.
When the feature event came to life, Madsen would settle into second as he chased after early leader, Tim Shaffer until a yellow on the race’s fourth lap. The ensuing restart would go in Madsen’s favor as he surged to the lead on the fifth circuit.
Out in front ,Madsen would lead the way over Shaffer and a hard charging Kyle Larson. Battling with Larson for the lead, Madsen would slip back to second on the ninth lap as Larson took command.
Battling with the likes of Brad Sweet, David Gravel, and Donny Schatz over the course of the 40-lap affair, Madsen would ultimately end up finish in the fifth position.
After an extremely tough start to Thursday night’s event at Lincoln Speedway, Madsen would finish eighth in his heat race and 10th in the semi and would need to utilize a provisional to start the feature event.
Lining up 27th on the starting grid, Madsen would be able to work his way forward a little as he would pick up a handful of positions and close his night out with a 20th place finish.
Friday night’s stop at Williams Grove would get off to a much better start for Madsen and company as he would time in 13th quickest in Time Trials on this night.
Lining up fifth in his heat race, Madsen and Danny Dietrich would fight for position before Madsen settled for the sixth and final transfer position into the 25-lap feature event.
Lining up 16th in the feature, Madsen would cut down a tire on lap three and would be forced into the work area. Able to make it back out, Madsen would showcase a strong racecar as he would work his way forward after the early issues.
With seven laps to go, Madsen would tangle with another competitor and it would result in his night coming to an early end as he would be credited with a 20th place finish.
“Friday night’s finish was a bummer,” Madsen said. “We had a fast racecar, just couldn’t capitalize. Thanks to my guys for their relentless work ethic, and all of our supporters for sticking with us.”
Ian and his KCP Racing team would like to thank Logan Contractors Supply Inc., Aspen Aire, Royal Flooring, Bobcat, Team Kline Electric, Ted’s Body Shop, Bobcat, Team Excavating, Greenland Homes, Finer Cuts Lawn and Landscape, American Express, TammyHeckart.com, Quality Traffic Control, Bergen Paulsen, Coverage Direct, Revolution Race Gear, Monarch’s, and BK Racing Titanium for their support this season.
