Ian Madsen Lands on World of Outlaws Podium at Knoxville Raceway

PETERSEN MEDIA- Getting back to the familiar confines of Knoxville Raceway over the weekend, Ian Madsen would pick up nice second place finish with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series on Friday night before closing the weekend out with a sixth place finish on Saturday night.

“It was great to get back to Knoxville Raceway over the weekend,” Ian Madsen said. “We have a ton of partners based locally so it was great have a lot of people at the track all weekend and run well both nights. Kyle Ripper and these guys really got back to what we know at Knoxville and we had a great car.”

Friday night’s opener saw the St. Marys, NSW pilot kick his night off by timing the Logan Contractors Supply, Inc./Aspen Aire/Royal Flooring backed No. 18 entry in fastest in qualifying flight ‘B’.

Lining up on the pole of his heat race, the defending Knoxville Track Champion was able to fend off a tough challenge from Brian Brown as he picked up the win and made his way into the Sears Craftsman Dash.

Finishing fifth in the Dash, Madsen would find himself in the third row to start the 25-lap Brownells Big Gun Bash opening night feature event. Following an early yellow that led to a red on a restart, the fast paced feature would see Madsen spend a lot of time battling with brother, Kerry Madsen, and David Gravel.

Able to get by his counter parts, Madsen would find himself in the second position, but race leader Donny Schatz had simply ran away and hid from the field. Needing a caution to bunch the field back up, Madsen would not be so fortunate as he took the checkered flag with a second place finish.

Saturday night’s finale at Knoxville Raceway would see Madsen get off to a bit of a slower start as he would time his machine in fifth quickest in his qualifying flight on this night.

Lining up in the second row of his heat race, Madsen’s fourth place finish would transfer him into the feature event where he would have his work cut out for him as he gridded the field from the 13th starting position.

With threatening skies looming, officials would do a great job of pushing the show through. Under power, Madsen would have his elbows up on the famed ½ mile facility. Spending much of the last three years honing his craft at the ‘Mecca of Mud’, Madsen would slice and dice his way to a sixth place finish when the weekend stop in Iowa came to a close.

“This time of year is really tough with these guys, and there are some really big races that take place,” Madsen added. “We have been pretty consistent as of late, and I am confident we can keep this up and we can keep bettering our results. Again, huge thanks to all that support us and make this possible.”

Ian and his KCP Racing team would like to thank Logan Contractors Supply Inc., Aspen Aire, Royal Flooring, Bobcat, Team Kline Electric, Ted’s Body Shop, Bobcat, Team Excavating, Greenland Homes, Finer Cuts Lawn and Landscape, American Express, TammyHeckart.com, Quality Traffic Control, Bergen Paulsen, Coverage Direct, Revolution Race Gear, Monarch’s, and BK Racing Titanium for their support this season.
