Up and Down Weekend for Ian Madsen

PC- SprintFun

PETERSEN MEDIA- A three-race weekend at two different tracks led to an up and down weekend for Ian Madsen and KCP Racing that was highlighted by Top-10 at Eldora Speedway on Saturday night after lining up in the 22nd starting position.

“It was a weekend of peaks and valleys,” Ian Madsen said. “We would have speed and then we would get involved in a wreck, or we would struggle early and have to dig out of hole, and that is not the easiest thing to do with these guys. I have to give credit to my team though, they never gave up and worked extremely hard.”

Friday night marked the first of the triple-header weekend, and Madsen would get off to a decent start as he timed the Logan Contractors Supply Inc./Aspen Aire/Royal Flooring backed No. 18 entry in 13th fastest.

Lining up in the second row of his heat race, the Australian driver would race his way to a third place finish which placed him in the fifth row to start the feature event.

When the race got underway, Madsen would drop a couple of positions as the field sorted out. Running in the 12th position, a wreck would take place in front of him and getting involved in it, Madsen would still keep his machine under power and avoid going to the back of the pack.

Enduring some damage to the right-rear corner of his machine, the handling on his machine would become increasingly difficult as the race went on and he faded back to finish 18th.

Bouncing back on Saturday night, Madsen would time the Bobcat/Team Kline Electric/Ted’s Body Shop machine in 24th fastest in his flight, which would put the KCP Racing team in an early hole.

Finishing sixth in his heat race, Madsen found himself in the semi where his second place run moved him into the feature event where he would take the green flag from the 11th row.

Driving with a bit of a chip on his shoulder with how the weekend had gone, Madsen was spectacular on the famed ½ mile. Running where the others were not the former Knoxville Track Champion would race his way inside the Top-10 as he took the checkered flag in ninth.

Sunday brought the final race of the weekend as the series checked in at Tri State Speedway in Haubstadt, IN, a track that Madsen had never visited before.

Getting acclimated to the tricky bullring, Madsen would timed in 14th quickest in his qualifying group before working his way up to finish fifth in his heat race and transfer directly into the feature event.

Gridding the field from 19th, Madsen would continue to adapt and take a liking to the speedway as he would work his way up as high as 12th during the course of the race. As the case in short track racing, contact front another car would cause steering damage to Madsen’s entry and it would result in a spin.

Aboard a battered racecar, Madsen would fight from the tail end of the field and salvage his night with a 13th place finish.

“It was just really up and down,” Madsen said. “There was some good that came from it, for sure. With that in the past now we turn our attention to PA this week.”

Ian and his KCP Racing team would like to thank Logan Contractors Supply Inc., Aspen Aire, Royal Flooring, Bobcat, Team Kline Electric, Ted’s Body Shop, Bobcat, Team Excavating, Greenland Homes, Finer Cuts Lawn and Landscape, American Express, TammyHeckart.com, Quality Traffic Control, Bergen Paulsen, Coverage Direct, Revolution Race Gear, Monarch’s, and BK Racing Titanium for their support this season.
