PETERSEN MEDIA- Invading the Lone Star State with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series over the last week, Ian Madsen would have a bit of a learning curve though the Rookie of the Year contender would come home with a Top-10 finish.
“We have a great race team, but coming to some of these places we aren’t familiar with is going to be tough but we knew that,” Ian Madsen said. “We will keep plugging away and keep at it.”
Thursday night the series was finally able to take to Cotton Bowl Speedway in Paige, TX after a couple of rain outs. A light car count with see a unique format in play on this night, and Madsen would open the weekend up by timing the Logan Contractors Supply/Aspen Aire/Royal Flooring entry in eighth quickest in time trials.
Finishing fifth in his heat race, Madsen would move into a qualifier where he would grid the field from the sixth starting position. Slipping back to finish 10th, Madsen would line up 14th in the feature event.
On a tough surface for passing, Madsen would be stuck in the middle of the pack as he would finish 13th to open a three-race weekend.
Traveling to Mesquite, TX for a pair of races at Devil’s Bowl Speedway Friday and Saturday night, Madsen would open the Texas Outlaw Nationals up by timing in 13th quickest in qualifying time trials.
From the third row of his heat race, Madsen would make a couple of swift moves as he jumped into third and chased after Kasey Kahne who held the second spot which also came with a berth to the Dash. Unable to make the move, Madsen would move into the feature event where he would line up in the seventh starting position.
Mixing it up in the Top-10 with David Gravel and Kasey Kahne, Madsen would get more comfortable on the tricky configuration lap after lap. With the waiving of the checkered flag, Madsen would finish seventh on this night.
