Second Place Finish at Knoxville Raceway Has Madsen Primed For Busy Week Ahead
PETERSEN MEDIA- One week after taking over the point lead at Knoxville Raceway, Ian Madsen and the KCP Racing team would put together another good night at the famed ½ mile as the Australian native recorded a second place finish.
“We hurt a car pretty bad on Friday night with the World of Outlaws, but that didn’t slow us down too much as we came back on Saturday night at finished second,” Ian Madsen explained.
Timing the Logan Contractors Supply, Inc./Aspen Aire/Royal Flooring backed No. 18 machine in fourth fastest during qualifying time trials, Madsen would finish fourth during heat race action.
Gridding the field from the fifth starting spot for the 25-lap feature event, Madsen would get a good jump as he quickly settled into the third spot giving chase to Danny Lasoski and Lynton Jeffrey.
On the slick surface, Madsen would get by Jeffrey on the fifth lap as the track would begin taking rubber in spots. Running second to Lasoski, Madsen would try to get around for the lead on a couple of late restarts, but passing would be tough late in the race and he would settle for a second place finish at the stripe.
Friday night, Madsen and team checked into the West Liberty Raceway in West Liberty, IA to battle with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series.
Getting off to a very quick start, Madsen timed the Bobcat/Kline Electric/Greenland Homes entry in fifth quickest during the qualifying time trials session. Lining up second in his heat race, the St. Marys, NSW native would get the win and put his machine in the Dash.
Finishing fifth in the Dash, Madsen would grid the field from the third row for the 25-lap feature event.
Getting off to a very nice start, Madsen would battle up front has he ran inside the Top-Five. Racing hard with the likes of Daryn Pittman and Jason Johnson, Madsen’s night would come to an end on the 12th circuit. Battling for position, contact with a competitor would result in a hard crash for the KCP Racing entry.
“Friday night was a result of some hard racing,” Madsen noted. “It was shaping up to be another good night with the Outlaws for our team, but it didn’t end quite how we had hoped.”
Ian and his KCP Racing team would like to thank Logan Contractors Supply Inc., Aspen Aire, Royal Flooring, Bobcat, Team Kline Electric, Greenland Homes, Team Excavating, TammyHeckart.com, Finer Cuts Lawn and Landscape, Des Moines Area Roofing, Quality Traffic Control, Bergen Paulsen, Coverage Direct, Monarch’s, and Revolution Race Gear for their support this season.
