Madsen takes night 2 of IL Sprint Week

Stewart makes surprise appearance, takes home second
PONTOON BEACH, Ill. (July 25, 2013) - Night number two of Illinois Sprint Week at Tri-City Speedway, Thursday, saw Ian Madsen become the second driver in as many nights to pick up his second 2013 MOWA win.
Madsen was the class of the field, as he won by nearly three-quarters of a track over second place finishing Tony Stewart. He had lapped up to 12th place when the checkered flag flew.
Kody Kinser had a very good night, winning the dash and held off Stewart for second for the first 23 laps of the feature event. Stewart got under Kinser coming out of turn four coming to the white flag. The pair were side-by-side at the start finish line as the white flag flew.
The race for second through fourth was a good one, as they finished nose to tail at the stripe, with Jerrod Hull picking up the fourth spot.
Jimmy Hurley and Jerrod Hull are in a tight battle for the Sprint Week points title, as Hurley has a first and a fifth place finish, while Hull has a second and fourth.
A.J. Bruns, the series point leader, had his first finish outside the top 5 this year, in the event at Tri-City Speedway. Bruns made the show, but finished in the 14th spot.
The high speedway 3/8ths mile did eat a few cars, Thursday, as Adam Schmidt got upside down in turn one while running third in heat two. Schmidt was OK, but the car was damaged badly and ended his night. Alex Shanks destroyed a car attempting a pass for the final transfer spot in the second B-Main. Shanks was OK, but the car was bent in nearly every place possible.
Night three kicks off tonight at Jacksonville Speedway with the Herb Barlow Memorial, for more info visit http://www.jacksonvillespeedway.com/.
The final night of Illinois Sprint Week comes, Saturday, when the series moves to Macon Speedway. Stewart is scheduled to be in attendance for that show as well, along with Danny Smith, Kinser, Bruns, Hull and Hurley. For more info on that event check out http://www.maconracing.com/.
