PETERSEN MEDIA- Making one final trip in 2016, Ian Madsen and the KCP Racing team would take on the World of Outlaws during the World Finals in Charlotte, NC. Though Madsen would have a ton of speed, he would not end his year on the note that he and his team would have hoped.

“We had a really good car both nights, but unfortunately it just did not play out for us,” Madsen said. “It was a great year overall, so we will certainly look to keep this going into next year.”

Kicking the action off on Thursday night for time trials, Madsen would time in seventh fastest in his flight for the Friday night program, and second fastest for Saturday night’s season finale.

Hitting the Charlotte Dirt Track for racing action on Friday night, Madsen would pick up a fourth place finish in his heat race. Though typically good enough to lock him into the feature event on most nights, only three would transfer to the main event on this night due to the format and Madsen would be bound for the Last Chance Showdown.

A strong performance in the LCS would move Madsen to the feature event, where he would grid the field from the 19th starting position for the 30-lap feature event. On an extremely racy slicked off surface, Madsen would have his elbows up as he carved his way through the star studded field.

Getting up into the 10th spot late in the race, contact during a double file restart would see Madsen get out of shape and lose several positions. Gathering himself back up, Madsen would end up with a 17th place finish on this night.

Looking for a solid night to end 2016 on, Madsen would come out swinging, as he would win his heat race and earn a spot in the nightly Dash. Finding himself in the second row of the six-lap shootout, Madsen would pick up a position during the race, as a second place finish would put him on the front row of the 30-lap World Finals feature event.

Slipping back to the third spot as the race came to life, Madsen would find himself racing with Donny Schatz and Greg Hodnett for a spot on the podium. Getting out of shape amidst the battle, Madsen would lose several spots as he faded back to the 10th position.

On the 15th lap Madsen would run into a bit of misfortune, as a car would lose power directly in front of him. Able to avoid disaster, contact was still made to the KCP Racing entry, and suspension damage would cause problems for the St. Marys, NSW pilot. Doing what he could for another five laps, Madsen would pull his machine back to the pit area on the 20th lap and bring his night and season to an end.

“It is a bummer to end our year with a couple of subpar finishes, but the bright side is that we really were not nearly as bad as our results show,” Madsen added. “Huge thanks to everyone involved with this team for making 2016 a great one.”

Ian and his KCP Racing team would like to thank Logan Contractors Supply Inc., Aspen Aire, Team Kline Electric, Royal Flooring, Bobcat, TammyHeckart.com, Caliber Iowa, Quality Traffic Control, Flatrate, Inc., Speck USA, Bergen Paulsen, Coverage Direct, Finer Cuts Lawn and Landscape, Lucas Oil, and Revolution Race Gear for their support this season.
