PETERSEN MEDIA- With the Knoxville Nationals looming, Ian Madsen had a great final weekend of preparation that saw him win at the Knoxville Raceway, run second at the Hancock County Speedway, and finish fourth at the Jackson Motorplex.
“We have been really good all year, but it feels great to have a weekend like we did heading into the Knoxville Nationals,” Ian Madsen said.
Saturday night at the Knoxville Raceway, Ian Madsen would get off to a quick start as he timed the Logan Contractors Supply Inc./Aspen Aire/Kline Electric entry in fourth fastest amongst the 32 cars checked into the pit area.
Running third in his heat race, Madsen would find himself on the pole for the feature event, as he looked for redemption after mechanical woes troubled him just one week ago.
With Jamie Veal getting out to the early lead, Madsen flanked him for the firs lap until making his move on the race’s second circuit. The pair of Australian drivers would thrill the crowd as they battled up front, until Veal would cut his night short and pull into the infield.
With a little breathing room, Madsen would continue to lead the way until lapped traffic would slow him down. With Danny Lasoski closing his gap, Madsen would make a couple of strong moves in traffic to solidify the win on this night.
“We just got out front and went as hard as we could for 25-laps,” Ian Madsen said. “I was very happy to get a win in front of a great crowd.”
Madsen would open his weekend up on Friday night at the Jackson Motorplex in Jackson, MN. Timing in 12th fastest, Madsen would start and finish third in heat race action.
Moving into the 25-lap feature event, Madsen would grid the field from the sixth row aboard the Royal Flooring/Bobcat/TammyHeckart.Com backed machine. On the racy ½ mile speedway, Madsen would get his elbows up late in the race and make some headway through the field.
Getting into the sixth spot, Madsen would battle with Brian Brown and Dusty Zomer and he would take over the fourth spot with just a few laps to go in the feature event. Chasing after Sammy Swindell for the final spot on the podium, Madsen would be unable to get to the veteran and would finish fourth.
Heading to the Hancock County Speedway on Sunday night, Madsen would come out swinging as he would set the standard in qualifying time trials and earn quick time honors.
Finishing third in his heat race, Madsen would find himself in the second row for the 20-lap feature event.
With the track extremely slick and abrasive and the preferred line right around the bottom, Madsen would take full advantage of his inside starting position,
At the waiving of the green flag, Madsen would get by older brother, Kerry, and take over the second spot. With passing extremely tough on this night, Madsen would spend much of the night chasing after Terry McCarl who set a strong pace out front.
In the race’s closing laps, Madsen would close in to within a couple car lengths of McCarl but could not get close enough to challenge him for the win.
“To win, run second, and run fourth is a great weekend against some stiff competition and I have to thank my guys for their hard work,” Madsen said. “We have two big weeks ahead of us, and I am hoping to make some noise for this KCP Racing team and all of our sponsors.”
Ian and his KCP Racing team would like to thank Logan Contractors Supply Inc., Aspen Aire, Team Kline Electric, Royal Flooring, Bobcat, TammyHeckart.com, Caliber Iowa, Quality Traffic Control, Flatrate, Inc., Speck USA, Bergen Paulsen, Coverage Direct, Finer Cuts Lawn and Landscape, Lucas Oil, and Revolution Race Gear for their support this season.
